Power producers won’t be let down: Finance Minister Paudel

Bishnu Prasad Paudel

Kathmandu, July 28: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Bishnu Paudel, has said government would work in a way that encourages power producers.

During a meeting with the office bearers of the Independent Power Producers’ Association, Nepal at his office on Sunday, DPM Paudel said the energy producers should be encouraged as the country was yet to have sufficient electricity.

Nepal is both importing and exporting electricity, he reminded, urging the delegation to increase electricity consumption. He vowed his works would not let down the power producers from private sectors.

On the occasion, IPPAN Chairman Ganesh Karki informed that private sector had played a significant role on electricity production. In the two and half decades alone, the private sector has accomplished 182 hydropower projects of 2500 MW. Similarly, 137 hydropower projects are under construction which would produce 3900MW power.

Karki complained that at a time when the private sector was aggressively working for hydropower production, the financial policy and monetary policy were discouraging. #nepal #electricity
