Kathmandu, Jan 4: Chairman of CPN (Maoist Centre) and former Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has said that time has come for an overhaul in the economy to bring about reforms in people’s lives.
Inaugurating the Third National General Convention of Nepal National Federation of Entrepreneurs in Kathmandu on Saturday, he said massive reforms in economy were inevitable to change the people’s status to align it with the changed political system.
The former PM also recalled the patience and restrained of entrepreneurs to face the challenges created from the country’s dwindling economy.
“The signs of improvement in Nepal’s economy are gradually visible. Our entire focus should be centered to self-employment and employment generation through investment-friendly climate, production growth and promotion of trade and business,” the Maoist Centre Chairman said.
Prachanda also mentioned that his government, while drafting the policy and programmes, and budget for the current fiscal year, advanced clear plans for identification and mobilization of transformative areas for economic growth.
He shared that more emphasis was given for agriculture, tourism, hydropower, industry and IT sectors considering them as the transformative areas and as the crucial beginning for economic prosperity.
Saying that the main purpose of the constitution was to build socialism-oriented economy, Prachanda argued that a self-reliant economy should be developed while promoting productions.
Chairperson of State Affairs and Good Governance Committee of House of Representatives Ramhari Khatiwada, CPN (Maoist Centre) lawmaker Madhav Sapkota and other speakers said that the major political parties should share common views to addressing the common economic challenges in the country.
