Kathmandu, March 21: According to the decision of the Council of Ministers on Monday, the government will start the necessary process from Wednesday to provide relief of Rs 200,000 to the certified but disqualified former Maoist combatants.
The Council of Ministers meeting had decided to ‘provide relief to the certified but disqualified former Maoist combatants of the armed conflict period by formulating a procedure’.
“From Wednesday, the Home Ministry will start the process of making the procedure, based on that, the distribution work will be started after identifying the need”, said Home Secretary Binod Prakash Singh, “as far as possible, the distribution will be done from the current financial year.” He informed that the work of distribution will be done in stages.
Secretary Singh informed that the distribution of relief funds will be done through the District Administration Office. According to him, there are 4,080 disqualified maoist fighters in the verification of the United Nations Mission in Nepal (UNMIN). Earlier in the year 2073BS, they were told to give relief of Rs. 200,000 each, but finally it was stopped.
During the then peace process, there were 19,000 combatants in different camps, out of which 4,080 fighters who were deemed unfit by UNMIN were expelled. About 1,400 fighters joined the Nepali Army while the rest went on voluntary retirement.
Likewise, the Council of Ministers also decided to publish names of disappeared and killed person during the 10-year armed conflict initiated by CPN (Maoist Centre).
