President Bhandari appoints new state chiefs

Kathmandu, Nov 4  : President Bidya Devi Bhandari has appointed new chiefs of all seven states. President Bhandari on Monday appointed the state chiefs on the recommendation of the Council of Ministers.

According to the Office of the President, Somnath Adhikari has been appointed as chief of state 1, Tilak Pariyar of state 2, Bishnu Prasad Prasai of state 3, Amik Sherchan of Gandaki state, Dharmanath Yadav of state 5, Govinda Prasad Kalauni of Karnali state and Sharmila Kumari Pant of Sudur Paschim state.

A secretariat meeting of the ruling Nepal Communist Party held on Monday had finalized the name of new state chiefs. A cabinet meeting held soon after the NCP Secretariat meeting at the official residence of the Prime Minister at Baluwatar endorsed the names of state chiefs.

Earlier, President Bhandari had relieved the then chiefs of all seven states from their post on Sunday. Newly appointed chief of state 1, Adhikari has significant contribution in communist movement of Nepal. Similarly, chief of state 2, Pariyar is former member of Constituent Assembly while chief of state 3, Prasai is peer leader of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, CP Mainali and other leaders of that time.

Likewise, newly appointed chief of Gandaki state, Sherchan, is former Deputy Prime Minister as well as chairperson of the then Janamorcha Nepal while chief of state 5, Yadav, involved in teaching profession for long, is known as simple leader  in the NCP party.

Chief of Karnali state, Kalauni, is senior communist leader and has made Dadeldhura, Baitadi and Kanchanpur as his workplace.

Similarly, chief of Sudur Paschim state, Panta, is active in politics as well as leader of the then CPN (Maoist Centre). She is wife of Gyanendra Tripathi. Tripathi was made disappeared by the state side during armed conflict period.

The newly appointed chiefs will be sworn in on Tuesday in President’s Office, Sheetal Niwas.
