
Kathmandu, June 20: The Election Commission, Nepal held consultations with Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli today regarding the conduct of by-elections for two vacant seats in the House of Representatives and Provincial Assembly, 18 seats in the National Assembly that will become vacant on March 4 next year, and vacancies in local government positions.
During the meeting held at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers in Singha Durbar, Acting Chief Election Commissioner Ram Prasad Bhandari and other commissioners discussed with Prime Minister Oli the plan to conduct by-elections for the vacant seats in the second week of November and schedule the election for the 18 upcoming vacancies in the National Assembly.
The Commission is preparing to announce the election date by July 1 (Asar 16) for the vacant seats — Rupandehi Constituency No. 3 in the House of Representatives, and Manang Constituency No. 1(2) in the Gandaki Provincial Assembly — in consultation with the government. The Commission also informed that there are currently 13 vacant ward chair positions in local levels.
Prime Minister Oli assured that the government would provide necessary support to facilitate the Commission’s preparations and suggested the Commission also begin preparations for the upcoming 2084 BS general elections. The meeting was attended by Commissioners Dr. Janaki Kumari Tuladhar, Sagun Shamsher JBR, and senior officials from the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers. #election #nepal
