Kathmandu, March 12: On behalf of the 10-party alliance, the vice-presidential candidate Ramsahay Prasad Yadav will continue his candidacy for the vice-presidential post.
The Election Officer of the President and Vice President informed about this on Sunday.
Speaking to the media, Election Officer Mahesh Sharma Paudel said that since there is no mandatory or binding arrangement that the President and Vice President should be of different genders and communities, his candidacy will also be maintained. Yadav’s candidacy was contested by CPN-UML.
He said, “There is no mandatory provision that the president and the vice president should be of different gender and community, as the constitution and the legal system are in place so that gender and community should be different, it cannot be said that a male candidate from a different community than the Khas Arya community, Ram Sahay Prasad Yadav, is ineligible to be a candidate for vice president.”
The claim of candidate Asta Laxmi Shakya and Mamta Jha cannot be accepted, EC said. Therefore, the nomination paper of Ramsahay Prasad Yadav should not be canceled.
Pramila Kumari is also a candidate from Janata Samajwadi Party. A total of 4 candidates have filed their nomination for the position of Vice President.
