Ilam, Sept 5: A ‘Red Panda Marathon’ competition is to be held in Ilam with the aim of promoting tourism.
The marathon is being organised on the occasion of International Red Panda Day on September 20.
It will start from the headquarters of Ilam to the Nepal-India border at Sandakpur Danda, said Ram Rimal, the programme director of Deepjyoti Youth Club.
The Deepjyoti Youth Club is organising the marathon competition with the support of the Red Panda Network and the Sandakpur Rural Municipality.
Male and female marathon runners will run a distance of 44.2 kilometres from the market square in Ilam (at an altitude of 1,120 metres) to Sandakpur Danda (at an altitude of 3,610 metres). More than 100 athletes from across the country, including the Nepal Army, Armed Police, and Nepal Police, will participate in the competition.
According to the organiser, Deepjyoti Youth Club, the winners of the competition in both male and female categories will receive Rs 150,000 for first place, Rs 100,000 for second place, Rs 50,000 for third place, and Rs 30,000 for fourth place.
Similarly, there will be a separate competition for local athletes from Ilam, Panchthar, and Taplejung.
The first place winners in both men’s and women’s categories will receive Rs 25,000, the second place winner Rs 20,000, the third place winner Rs 10,000, and the fourth place winner Rs 5,000 under the local category. #nepal #Red Panda Marathon #rss
