Revenue Investigation files case against two person, found guilty on crypto trading

KATHMANDU: The Department of Revenue Investigation (DRI) has filed a case in the Kathmandu District Court against two persons for illegally trading US dollars through cryptocurrency platform.

The Department has filed a case against Puskar Shrestha, 28, of Ratuwamai Municipality-7, Morang District and Binita Limbu, 23, of the same place, alleging that they were involved in foreign exchange.

According to the Department, Shrestha and Limbu had conspired to illegally trade US dollars using mobile apps 1xbet, Binance, Adv Cash, Coinbase and Paxfull. The DRI has submitted evidences as bank statements of various banks, data obtained on confiscated mobiles and call details.

Defendant Puskar Shrestha, acting as an investor in US dollar exchange and crypto, obtained Rs. 757.71 million and Binita Limbu received Rs. 21.6 million. The Department has also asked imprisonment for up to three years.

The government has banned all types of cryptocurrency transactions. Recently, the Nepal Rastra Bank, the central bank of Nepal, released a notice prohibiting cryptocurrency trading from Nepal.
