Kathmandu: Newly appointed Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has underscored that reviving the economy is the government’s first priority.
He said the very first meeting of the Council of Ministers has made a special decision in this connection. Prime Minister Dahal expressed this during a meeting with a delegation of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) office-bearers this morning.
He said he respects the concern and worry shown by the private sector regarding the serious condition of the economy. “The Federation is on a campaign of saving the economy. You’ve come for a meeting in the early morning, this shows your concern for the economy and that’s why you are calling for a solution. The government takes your concerns seriously,” the FNCCI through a press release quoted the Prime Minister as saying during the meeting.
The FNCCI stated that views were exchanged regarding revival of the country’s economy during the meeting took place at the Prime Minister’s private residence.
Concern of FNCCI
On the occasion, FNCCI president Shekhar Golchha extended congratulations and best wishes to the newly-appointed PM on behalf the entire private sector, and also briefed the Prime Minister about the present condition of the national economy.
Prime Minister Dahal said he is also studying the suggestions given by the FNCCI in past and expressed the belief that initiative would be taken to resolve the problems soon sitting with the Finance Ministry, Nepal Rastra Bank and private sector on this matter.
FNCCI President Golchha reminded that the Prime Minister himself was aware about the country’s economic condition, situation of industries and business as they had already briefed him about the dire straits of the economy.
President Golchha suggested postponing capital loans guideline at least for two years and the Central bank should use all monetary tools to solve the problems of liquidity crunch He also stressed that the new government should focus its all attention for revival of the country’s economy as it is in very sensitive condition.
FNCCI Senior Vice President Chandra Dhakal, Immediate Past President of FNCCI Mrs Bhawani Rana, former President Pashupati Murarka, including senior officials of the FNCCI were present on the occasion.
CNI office-bearers meet PM Dahal
A delegation of the Confederation of Nepalese Industries (CNI) met with newly appointed Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’.
During the meeting at the private residence of the Prime Minister at Khumaltar today, the delegation of the office-bearers led by Chairperson Bishnu Kumar Agrawal on the behalf of the private sector congratulated and extended best wishes to Dahal on his election to the post of the Prime Minister. On the occasion, the delegation suggested that improvement in the country’s economy, which is in challenging condition, should be the first priority of the new government.
The CNI presented a concept ‘Rebooting Nepalese Economy’ along with the clear steps to be initiated immediately in order to revive the country’s economy before the Prime Minister. It also suggested about the measures to be adopted immediately keeping the fiscal sector (liquidity crisis and high interest rate), industrial promotion, tourism, energy and information technology area in priority to revive country’s economy.
PM Prachanda said in the meeting that he has expected this type of suggestion from the private sector for reforming the economy. “I had expected this from the private sector. The Confederation has submitted clear reform plans, thank you to the Confederation,” he added.
CNI recommends
The Executive Chief asserted that the government’s main attention is toward improving the economy and the government will collaborate with the Confederation for this. “We have placed the economy in priority from the very first meeting of the Council of Ministers. We will be moving ahead in collaboration with the private sector,” the PM said.
Confederation former president Hari Bhakta Sharma, vice-president Nirvan Chaudhary, Krishna Prasad Adhikari, Birendra Raj Pandey, Rohit Gupta, Confederation Industry Committee president Gokul Bhandari, Confederation Director General Deepak Raj Joshi, among other office-bearers and members congratulated and extended best wishes to PM Dahal on the occasion.
