RSP withdraws support given to present government

Kathmandu, May 5: The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has decided to withdraw its support to the present Prachanda-led government. The joint meeting of the central committee and the parliamentary party decided to withdraw the support given to the government and sit in the opposition.

Party Chairman Rabi Lamichhane said in the press conference after the meeting, “We have to appreciate public sentiment and public opinion, the mandate given to us by the by-election this time was to play the role of a strong opposition, now we will move forward accordingly.” Chairman Lamichhane made it clear that in the coming days, the party’s organization will expand and work as a constructive opposition.

In response to the journalist’s question, he said, “We don’t move by making coalitions or destabilizing them. If the government goes astray, a political party will definitely take action, but rather than forming and demolishing the government, our focus is on presenting it as a constructive opposition.”

He said that the state structure is only a place to manage leaders/activists and that the state structure should be discussed. He says that the condition of the people can be changed even within this system. Chairman Lamichhane thanked the current government for taking action against people involved in corruption, including those involved in the fake refugee case, and urged other people involved in the corruption case to take action.

He said that before the central convention of the party, the MPs of the party will be included in the central committee.
