Sandeep Lamichhane leaves for Pakistan to play Asia Cup



Kathmandu, Aug 28: Nepali national cricket team leg spinner Sandeep Lamichhane has left for Pakistan via Doha, Qatar today for Asia Cup Cricket-2023.

Tankalal Ghising, Member Secretary of the National Sports Council, reached the airport to see him off. Bidding farewell to Sandeep, Member Secretary Ghising said that his presence is very important for Nepal. He believes that the presence of Sandeep in the cricket team will make the Nepali team complete. “This is a very important competition in the history of Nepal. Sandeep could not go with the team due to technical reasons. Now his journey is confirmed. The entire country has faith in Sandeep,” Ghising said.

Similarly, Sandeep said that he is excited to play against Pakistan and India and said that he is fully fit and will not take time to blend into the team. Sandeep expressed his belief that Nepal will play good cricket as everyone in the team is in a good form.

Sandeep’s way to Pakistan was opened after he was not sent to jail in the district court hearing on rape charges.

Sandeep’s next court hearing is scheduled for Bhadra 21. The Nepali cricket team has already reached Pakistan. However, the Nepal Cricket Association (CAN) did not take Sandeep with the team because of his illness.

Sandeep was given a grand farewell by his supporters at the airport. Nepal, who qualified for the Asia Cup for the first time, is in Group A. Among them are two great former world champions India and Pakistan. Nepal will play their opening match against Pakistan on Bhadra 13. Similarly, they will face India on Bhadra 18.
