Kathmandu : The Supreme Court (SC) has issued an interlocutory interim order to the Election Commission (EC) not to implement its decision to annul the candidacy of Raju Gurung in Rupandehi Constituency No. 2.
Gurung is a candidate contesting from Rupandehi Constituency No. 2 for the upcoming House of Representatives (HoR) election representing the current five-party coalition.
A single bench of Justice Bishwombhar Prasad Shrestha issued such order not to implement the decision of the Office of the Returning Officer taken on October 11 to cancel Gurung’s candidacy.
The SC in its interlocutory interim order asked the Office of the Returning Officer to present the reason in written for canceling the candidacy of Gurung and has summoned the both sides (writ petitioner and defendant) to be present on the Court on October 19 for discussion on the case.
Candidate of the CPN (Unified Socialist) Gurung had filed a writ petition in the SC on last Thursday against the cancellation of his candidacy.
The Office of the Returning Officer had decided to cancel the candidacy of Gurung following the complaint registered against Gurung that he was indicted in a banking fraud by the court.
