Kathmandu, Dec 26: President Ram Chandra Paudel has said that senior citizens, enriched with knowledge, skills and experience, are a valuable source of inspiration and an enabling force for societal development.
Extending best wishes to Nepali people at home and abroad for good health, longevity and a dignified life on the occasion of National Senior Citizens Day, 2082 BS, the President stressed the need for respect, care and proper protection of senior citizens, describing them as a source of love, affection and compassion.
President Paudel expressed confidence that the observance of National Senior Citizens Day would further encourage collective efforts to ensure the dignified life and livelihood of senior citizens. He urged families, society, organisations and all three tiers of government to work collaboratively to facilitate the transfer of knowledge, skills and experience from the elderly generation to younger generations.
He also called on concerned stakeholders to enhance the effectiveness of government-sponsored facilities, entitlements, social security and protection mechanisms for senior citizens.
Meanwhile, in a message issued on the same occasion, Vice President Ram Sahaya Prasad Yadav said that senior citizens should be recognised as a source of awareness rather than a burden. He underlined the importance of developing senior citizen-friendly infrastructure, strengthening social security, promoting community support, and improving mental health services to preserve the dignity of the elderly.
The government observes National Senior Citizens Day every year on Poush 11 (December 26) in accordance with the Bikram Sambat calendar, with the aim of increasing respect, awareness and sensitivity towards senior citizens and their concerns.
This year, National Senior Citizens Day 2025 is being marked with various programmes across the country under the slogan, “Our Shared Campaign: Respect and Honour for Senior Citizens.” #nepal #citizen #aged
