Kathmandu, Aug 3: Taplejung Concern Centre Kathmandu has felicitated Dr. Sanduk Ruit, founder and executive director of Tilganga Eye Foundation, for his special contribution in the field of eye treatment. Speaker at the House of Representatives (HoR) Devraj Ghimire felicitated him at a function organized here today.
On that occasion, Speaker Ghimire said that as a hilly district, Taplejung is diverse with beauty, charm but is pushed back by poverty and underdevelopment.
Speaking at the event, CPN (UML) secretary and former minister Yogesh Bhattarai made said that the current government, formed by the two major political parties, is working for political stability and prosperity of the nation.
Historian and cultural expert Dr Surendra KC said that since democracy is a way of life, it is important to guide society in the right direction following a path of Dr Ruit.
Dr. Ruit suggested the government, parliament and political parties to pay attention to the task of speedy completion of the Tamor Corridor road construction so that the nation can benefit by utilizing the Kanjanjunga region.
Born in Taplejung Olangchungola, Ruit has succeeded in developing Nepal as the world’s educational hub for eye treatment by developing a world-class eye hospital and treating patients.
It is mentioned in the appreciative letter that Dr. Ruit is known as the ‘god of sight’ for marginalized people by producing world-class lenses at a low cost and simplifying cataract surgery.
Dr. Ruit has received Asia’s prestigious Ramon Magsaysay Award, Isa Award from the Government of Bahrain, Padma Shri Medal from the Government of India as well as awards and honors from various countries. RSS #nepal
