Kathmandu, Dec 3: The government has decided to allow seven industries to use government-owned land for the extraction of iron ore, granite, and limestone.
A meeting of the Council of Ministers held on Monday approved the request from these industries to utilize government land for mining activities. Until now, the Ministry of Forests had been withholding permission for such land use.
According to the cabinet decision, five industries have been authorized to use national forest land specifically for limestone extraction. As per the decision:
- Riddhi Siddhi Cement Ltd. will be able to use 21.63 hectares of national forest land in Bhimphedi Rural Municipality–7, Makwanpur, for limestone extraction.
- Baba Mines and Minerals Pvt. Ltd. has received approval to extract limestone on 4.99 hectares of national forest land in Bhimphedi Rural Municipality–5, Makwanpur.
- Bishakti Holdings Pvt. Ltd. has been allowed to use 20.14 hectares of national forest land in Rapti Municipality–13, Chitwan, for limestone mining.
- Shakti Minerals Pvt. Ltd. has been permitted to extract limestone on 21.41 hectares of national forest land located in Dhanusha, Mathagadhi Rural Municipality–7 of Palpa.
- KK Limes and Industries has been granted permission to use 2 hectares of national forest land in Chaudandigadhi Municipality–8, Udayapur, for limestone mining.
Additionally, the Cabinet has approved:
- Annapurna Minerals Pvt. Ltd. to extract iron ore on 4.96 hectares of national forest land in Bagmati Rural Municipality–6, Makwanpur.
- Big Plus Minerals to extract granite on 4.48 hectares of national forest land in Bhimphedi Rural Municipality–5, Makwanpur.
