Sajha Prakashan assembly meet, 2025.

Kathmandu, Feb 22: Shekhar Giri has been unanimously elected as the Chairman of Sajha Prakashan’s board of directors during its 25th General Assembly. The assembly also unanimously elected three board members, including one woman, and a supervisory audit committee.

Jayanta Pokharel was elected as the board member representing women, while Dr. Dhruba Ghimire and Manohar Lamichhane secured positions in the open category. Similarly, Basishta Kumar Adhikari was elected as the coordinator of the supervisory audit committee, with Raj Kumar Thapa and Basudha Pande Basnet as members, as per election committee secretary Bheshraj Ghimire.

During the inaugural session, Minister for Land Management, Cooperatives, and Poverty Alleviation, Balaram Adhikari, emphasized that Sajha Prakashan is an academic institution and assured the ministry’s support in addressing its challenges.

Dr Tulsi Prasad Bhattarai highlighted Sajha Prakashan’s contributions and urged literary figures to take proactive steps in preserving the institution.

Chief Election Commissioner Dinesh Chandra Thapaliya stressed the importance of ensuring the smooth sale of Sajha’s books through institutional decisions. Advising the newly elected leadership to enhance its operational efficiency, he proposed that all government libraries should stock Sajha publications.

“I am also a member of this institution, and I hold Sajha Prakashan in high regard. Government libraries should have its books,” Thapaliya remarked.

He further stated that parents, literature, and books never become obsolete and that Sajha should excel in promoting literary and cultural development. He urged the government to take Sajha’s management seriously, suggesting that operational plans be devised and that Sajha could achieve significant progress by securing printing contracts from various organizations.

“The enthusiasm we see today should last for the next four to five years. The current practice of appointing government officials to the board for short terms should be replaced with a four-year fixed tenure,” he added. #Sajha #nepal #books #literature
