Six dead when bus carrying pilgrims meets with accident in Bara



Bara, Aug 24: Six people died when a bus carrying pilgrims including from India met with accident near the Churiyamai temple of Jitpur Simara sub-metropolis-22 in Bara in the wee hours today.

According to police, the bus (Madhesh Province 3001 Kha 7994) en route to Janakpur from Kathmandu veered off the road and fell around 15 meters at 2:10 am today. Three died on the spot while three succumbed to injuries in course of the treatment, District Police, Bara’s spokesperson Dadhiram Neupane said. The injured are being treated in various health facilities in Hetauda.

The bus was carrying a total of 26 passengers, most of them from India. Although the cause of the accident is still under investigation, it appears that the accident was due to an excessive speed, it is said

The identities of the deceased are yet to be ascertained. The bus driver has been taken into custody.

All victims identified

All the seven who were killed in the bus accident took place near the Churiyamai temple of Jitpur Simara sub-metropolis-22 in Bara in the wee hours today have been identified.

District Police Office, Makwanpur has identified the deceased as Bijay Lal Pundit,41 of Loharpatti, Mahottari; Bahadur Singh, 67, Mira Devi Singh, 65, Satyawati Singh, 60, Rajendra Chaturvedi, 70, Shreekant Chaturvedi, 65, and Baijanti Devi, 67 from Rajasthan, India.

The bus was carrying a total of 26 passengers and 17 injured in the accident are being treated in Hetauda Hospital and Hetauda-based Sancho Hospital and Churehil Hospital and the Old Medical College, Bharatpur in Chitwan, according to Superintendent of Police Sitaram Rijal of DPO, Makwnapur.

The bus (Madhesh Province 3001 Kha 7994) en route to Janakpur from Kathmandu met with the accident at 2:00 am today.
