Kathmandu, March 11 : Prime Minister and CPN (Maoist Centre) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has said that a socialist front would be formed in some days and initiative would be made for the unification of communist forces on the same basis. He was of the view that the Maoist Centre should take a lead role for the unity of the communist parties and formation of the socialist front.
Addressing the party’s central committee members based in Madhes Province in Kathmandu today, the PM stated that the socialist front would be formed first and then debate for broader unity of communists would be commenced.
“The issues of People’s War and People’s Movement have not been addressed. The peace process has not completed. We have the responsibility to give a political outlet on the basis of the peace process and principle of transitional justice. Collaboration and unity of socialist forces is needed for this to happen,” the Prime Minister said.
“Discussions are ongoing among the communist parties of Maoist schooling. Our common understanding is to finalise the peace process and issues of transitional justice through Truth and Reconciliation Commission. We are making a joint appeal tomorrow. We are organising a news conference. A socialist front will be formed within some days,” PM Prachanda added.
Reminding of communist movements that crashed after their failure once, Maoist Centre’s Chairman Prachanda added that Nepal’s communist movement is at the crossroads of challenges and possibilities. “We should open up the door for socialism through broader left unity by coping with challenges,” he mentioned.
On the occasion, he said that UML’s main leadership is against the motion of communist unity but a large section in the party is for unification move.
“A section there (in the UML) still believes that the CPN should be revived. That opinion is in the interest of revolution and communist movement. So, we should take lead role for the unity,” Prachanda told the party leaders.
During his speech, Prachanda recalled that a section in the UML cheered up the division of the CPN in the past but most of the cadres and leaders still want revival of the CPN.
He appealed to the party leaders and cadres to offer debates for the cause of unity by defeating all the divisible forces and trends.
Likewise, Prachanda said that the Maoist Centre would go to the grassroots level and review its position after getting recommendations from the people, and would fix its course ahead in line with the people’s suggestions.
