Speaker Sapkota urges govt to end deadlock in parliament

KATHMANDU: Speaker of House of Representatives (HoR) Agni Prasad Sapkota urged the government to resolve the impasse in the federal parliament.

In a meeting with Minister for Law, Justice and Federal Parliament Dilendra Prasad Badu on Sunday, Speaker Sapkota placed the request for the same.

Stating that it was not good to have prolonged disruption in the parliament, Sapkota asked the Minister to be serious towards lifting the obstruction.

The next meeting of HoR is scheduled on February 9. According to Shreedhar Neupane, press advisor to Speaker Sapkota, the two leaders discussed ending the deadlock in the parliament.

The major opposition party CPN (UML) has been obstructing the meetings of the federal parliament disapproving over the working style of the Speaker.

The Speaker, according to press advisor Neupane, said that people’s legislative body could not function properly and discussion on various issues of national importance could not be held due to obstruction in the parliament. Therefore, he urged all the political parties to cooperate and forge a consensus for running the parliament business smoothly.

On Sunday itself, a meeting among Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba, former Prime Minister and Chairperson of CPN (UML) KP Sharma Oli and former Prime Minister and Chairperson of CPN (Maoist Centre) Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ was convened at the official residence of the Prime Minister at Baluwatar to dwelt on contemporary issues including ending parliament impasse.
