Supreme Court denies interim order for Kulman Ghising

Kathmandu, March 28: The Supreme Court has decided to hear the government’s response before ruling on the petition filed by Kulman Ghising, who was removed from the position of Managing Director of the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA).

Ghising had approached the Supreme Court seeking an interim order to reinstate him as the Managing Director. However, since the court did not issue an immediate interim order, newly appointed Managing Director Hitendra Dev Shakya is free to continue his duties for the time being.

Ghising had requested the court to annul Shakya’s appointment and reinstate him. The hearing on the case involving both Ghising and Shakya is scheduled for Sunday.

On Friday, Justice Abdul Aziz Musalman conducted the initial hearing and decided that the government’s stance must be considered. Consequently, the case has been scheduled for Sunday’s session.

Both Ghising and Shakya had filed separate petitions, which were registered at the Supreme Court on Thursday. Ghising had submitted his writ petition late on Wednesday, and the court formally registered it the following day. Shortly after Ghising approached the court, Shakya also filed his own petition, claiming that he was unfairly removed from office four years ago and is entitled to compensation for the lost service period. #NEA
