Kathmandu, April 23: The Supreme Court has issued an order to obtain the case file related to the unity convention of the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA).
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs earlier requested the apex court to delay orginizing the unity convention for six more months. However, Mr Rajesh Shumsher Rana had filed a writ petition challenging the MoFA request.
The court has now ordered the retrieval of the case file in connection with the matter. The bench of Justices Binod Sharma and Nityananda Pandey issued the order on Wednesday, naming the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as the opposing party in the case.
According to the letter from the Foreign Ministry, the Office of the Attorney General submitted the petition to the court. In response, Rana filed a writ petition on Tuesday demanding that the unity convention be held at the scheduled time.
The leadership controversy has marred the activities of the global body of Non-Resident Nepali diaspora. Recently, the apex court has ordered to recognize Mr Shesh Ghale, the former President of NRNA, and carry out the election within six months. However, the Ghale-led organizing committee have been requesting to add six more months. #NRNA #nepal #SupremeCourt
