Kathmandu, Oct 14: Nepal defeated Qatar by five runs in its second Super Six match of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Asia and East Asia Pacific Qualifier being held in Oman.
In the match played at the Oman Cricket Academy Turf-1 ground in Al Amerat on Monday evening, Nepal registered its second consecutive win in the Super Six stage. Earlier on Sunday, Nepal had secured a thrilling one-run victory over the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Chasing a target of 148 runs set by Nepal, Qatar was bowled out for 142 in 19.5 overs. For Qatar, opener Imal Liyanage scored the highest 55 runs off 35 balls before being bowled out by Sandeep Lamichhane, while Zubair Ali contributed 52 runs. He was out with the bowling of Nandan Yadav.
Nepal’s Sandeep Lamichhane starred with the ball, taking five wickets, while Nandan Yadav claimed two and Dipendra Singh Airee took one. Lamichhane bagged the the Player of the Match award.
Earlier, after losing the toss and being invited to bat first, Nepal scored 147 runs for the loss of nine wickets in 20 overs. Captain Rohit Paudel top-scored with 58 runs, while Dipendra Singh Airee added 26 and Gulshan Jha contributed 16 runs. For Qatar, captain Mirza Mohammed Baig and Daniel Louis took three wickets each, while Muhammad Asim claimed one.
Nepal advanced to the Super Six stage as the winner of Group ‘B’, having defeated Kuwait and Japan in the group round.
