Kathmandu, Sept 1: The Tatopani border crossing with Tibet, China have opened from today. However, in the first phase, local people will get opportunity to travel Tibet with new permission granted by Chinese officials.
Chief District Officer Ramesh Neupane informed that a meeting held between Chinese and Nepali officials in Lhasa, Tibet last Tuesday decided to allow local civilians to travel through the border crossing. “We have made all the preparations to be done by Nepal”, he said.
Tatopani crossing has been closed since the earthquake of 2072 BS and COVID-19 outbreak, but the movement of cargo vehicles was opened three months ago. CDO Neupane said that the movement of people has not been opened before and that the movement of locals has been opened since Friday. According to him, the residents of Sindhupalchok will get a pass valid for one year.
