Tea export to India increases by 52 per cent

Jhapa, Sept 21: Export of tea from Mechi Customs Office has increased by 52 percent in the first two months of the current financial year 2081/82.

A total of 4,412 metric tons of tea has been exported in the month of Saun and Bhadau of the current financial year, which is 52 percent more than the corresponding period last year.

In the first two months of previous fiscal year, 2,902 metric tons of tea had been exported from the eastern border point with India, according to the office. The exported tea is worth Rs. 1.13 billion.

President of the Nepal Tea Producers’ Association, Aditya Parajuli, said that the export of tea from Nepal has increased due to the decrease in tea production in South India. The export of tea from Nepal is likely to increase further this year due to increased demand from India.

In the last financial year 2080/81, a total of 13,433 metric tons of tea worth Rs. 3.16 billion was exported to India. The amount to tea exported last year was 7.68 percent less in compared to the previous financial year. #tea #nepal #india #export #rss
