Third Int’l Watercolour Festival from Dec 2 in Nepal

Kathmandu, Dec 1: The third International Watercolour Festival is taking place at Nepal Art Council in Kathmandu from December 2.

The five-day festival has over 200 participants including 30 foreigners from 39 countries, it was shared. Altogether 340 watercolor artworks would be put on display in the Festival, said NB Gurung, Coordinator of the Festival.

Artists from India, Bangladesh, Thailand, Myanmar, the UK and Austria among others have already arrived to execute their works, said Coordinator Gurung. Among the 340 artworks, there will be 115 from Nepali artists, he added.

The event to be organized by the International Watercolour Society, Nepal aims to exhibit watercolour waterworks as well as to facilitate in exchange of knowledge among the watercolour artistes.

In a press meet here today, Gurung said the artists would visit various heritage sites in Kathmandu, Lalitpur and Bhaktapur and execute their works on the spots.

Furthermore, the participants will get to create artworks after being inspired by the sunrise and sunset during their excursion at Nagarkot in Bhaktapur district. The estimated budget of the event is Rs 1.3 million and there will be an award distribution ceremony in the Festival, according to the organizers.

The Festival is expected to introduce Nepal in the international platforms through artworks thereby hugely contributing in tourism promotion, informed D Ram Papali, senior Vice-Chairperson of the Society. Earlier, the event was organized in Lumbini, Pokhara, and Kathmandu.
