Chitwan, Dec 2: Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Narayan Kaji Shrestha has said those who defy the law and spread chaos would not be exempted.
Talking to media-persons at the Bharatpur airport today, the Deputy Prime Minister shared that the situation would be averted wherein the implementation of the federal democratic republic and socialism-oriented inclusive democracy would be obstructed.
He stressed the need for ensuring the rights of citizens provided by the democratic system which is guaranteed in the constitution.
“We have taken what activities are now being tried as a big challenge to the system itself,” he said, adding that the government should take serious measures to protect the constitution and the democratic system.
Responding to a query, DPM Shrestha mentioned “We are not talking about banning social networks. We have banned only TikTok. There are discussions about banning other social sites. This is not true. We will regulate it.”
Social media should contribute to democracy, social unity, civilisation and culture, and people’s rights to live freely, he said. “We will not restrict people’s freedom. We are heading to only regulate it.”
The Home Minister viewed that the government was acting liberally to ensure the protection of the constitution and the practice of the rights provided by democracy.
“We are not in favour of exempting anyone if they try to disturb social harmony, caste, religious unity, harmony and tolerance, and create unrest, instability and anarchy by defying the law,” he said.
