Kathmandu, Sept 10: The closure of Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) has been extended indefinitely, with no clear timeline for the resumption of operations.
In a public notice issued today, the airport authority cited lately developed adverse situation as the reason for the continued suspension of flights.
The airport has remained closed since 2:30pm on Tuesday. Initially, it was said that the closure would remain in effect till at 10:00am Tuesday. But a subsequent notice extended the closure until 6:00 pm today.
A new statement now confirms that the reopening remains uncertain and airlines have been advised to stay updated through official communications.
“The ongoing curfew in the Kathmandu Valley, the worsening situation within the Valley, and smoke observed along the flight path near Tribhuvan International Airport have created significant safety concerns for aircraft. As a result, the airport will remain closed until further notice,” the statement reads.
Passengers are strongly advised not to visit the airport while it remains closed. Once operations resume, travelers are requested to contact their respective airlines before arriving at the airport. The airport authority has also apologized for the inconvenience caused.
TIA typically operates daily from 6:00 a.m. to 1:00 a.m. Domestically, 21 airlines including 12 helicopter operators provide services. Towards international services, 30 airlines, including three Nepali carriers, operate regular flights from the airport.#nepal #TIA #rss
