Kathmandu, Nov 17: A total of ten writ petition have been filed against the decision of the Council of Ministers to ban the social network TikTok by the meeting held on Kartik 27. In all the writ petitions, the decision of the government has been requested to be annulled.
According to Supreme Court co-spokesman Govinda Ghimire, 10 writ petitions have been filed against the government’s decision, and the hearing of the dispute has been scheduled for this November 20.
After the decision of the government, most of the Internet Service Providers of Nepal have shut down TikTok.
The government had decided to shut down TikTok citing the disturbance of social harmony, the number of offenses against public decency, TikTok company’s lack of cooperation in the reduction of crimes caused by TikTok and the prosecution of criminals.
However, TikTok have denied government’s allegation and requested to smooth operation in Nepal. It has said that the Company was cooperating with the Nepal’s competent agencies and removed nearly 2.98 million contents that were violating the community guidelines.
