Kathmandu, April11: Businessmen have announced that Thamel and Darbarmarg areas of Kathmandu will be open for 24 hours from the new year 2081 BS.
On Thursday, Thamel Tourism Development Council and Darbarmarg Development Board held a press conference in Kathmandu and announced that Thamel and Durbarmarg area will be open for 24-hours.
The Council and the Board announced jointly that Darbarmarg and Thamel will conduct business for 24 hours according to the code of conduct made by the District Administration Office, Kathmandu.
President of Thamel Tourism Development Council Bhabiswar Sharma said that Durbarmarg and Thamel will be economically viable and more jobs will be created. He said that 60,000 people are employed in more than 8,000 businesses in Thamel alone. He further said that it is not easy to conduct business 24 hours a day in Thamel like Durbarmarg.
Chairman Sharma informed that there are challenges to manage as it is a permanent settlement area. He said that domestic and foreign tourists will feel that they can visit, stay and eat in Themal for 24-hours. He claimed that he wanted to organize Parishad Themal and make it a center of attraction. He said that the businessmen within the Thamel Bhagwan area will not be allowed to operate their business for 24-hours.
Sanjay Adhikari, Coordinator of Darbarmarg Development Board, said that there are about 200 businessmen in Darbar Marg. He said that more than 7,000 jobs have been created there. He said that the Darbar Marg Development Board’s longstanding efforts have now begun to succeed.
Earlier a series of meetings were held to start 24-hour opening of these two areas. The security agencies have formulated a detail plan for smooth functioning of the area. #nepal
