
Kathmandu, June 3: An introductory discussion was held between Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and the newly appointed officials of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) and the Commission of Investigation on Enforced Disappeared Persons (CIEDP).
During the meeting at the Prime Minister’s residence in Baluwatar, the commission officials presented an update on their initial efforts since their appointment, including public notifications for filing new complaints, as well as challenges faced, budgetary requirements, and infrastructure needs. They also expressed their expectations from the government for effective functioning.
The meeting was attended by Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Ajaya Chaurasiya, PM’s advisor on human rights and transitional justice Agni Kharel, and Attorney General Ramesh Badal, among others. Mahesh Thapa, Chairperson of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, and Leeladevi Gadtoula, Chairperson of the CIEDP, along with members and secretaries of both commissions, were also present.
Prime Minister Oli assured the officials that the government will fully support the commissions in delivering justice with a victim-centric approach, while emphasizing non-interference from the government. “Do not work under anyone’s pressure. Act independently, impartially, and with courage. The government will not interfere but will provide necessary support,” the Prime Minister said.
