Bharatpur, Nov 17: Two rhinos have been killed by smugglers in Chitwan National Park. The rhinoceros were killed in a ditch three and a half kilometers south-east of Chaparchuli post under the eastern sector of the park.
According to Ganesh Tiwari, information officer of the park, the six-year-old and 18-year-old female rhinos were found dead in the pit. Both of their horns could not be found. He said, “It has been seen that both of dead rhino’s horn remained lost.”
Tiwari informed that the pit where the six-year-old rhino was found dead is new, while the pit of the other rhino is relatively old. It is estimated that the small rhinoceros was put into the pit about three days ago and the big rhinoceros about 10 days ago.
He said that the investigation have been started after the incident emerged on Thursday evening. This is the first time rhinos have died in the park due to poaching. Five rhinos died due to natural causes. Last year, smugglers killed two rhinos in Amaltari area.
