Chitwan, Dec 26: The Nepali Women’s U-19 cricket team has commenced its closed training in preparation for the upcoming U-19 Women’s World Cup. The training began on Wednesday at the model ground of the under-construction Gautam Buddha International Cricket Stadium in Bharatpur Metropolitan City-15.
The U-19 Women’s World Cup is scheduled to take place in Malaysia from January 18. As part of the preparation, the closed training will continue in Chitwan until January 6, informed head coach Mahesh Prasad Rijal. He stated that the focus during training will be on “batting, bowling, and fitness.”
Team manager Binod Das highlighted that the training has been organized in Chitwan due to the international standards of the cricket ground.
Bharatpur Metropolitan City Mayor Renu Dahal extended her best wishes to the Nepali team and assured the city’s support for the players.
Vice President of the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN), Roshan Singh, mentioned that the training camp in Chitwan was made possible through the efforts of Bharatpur Metropolitan City and coordination with the CAN President. He added that CAN is positive about hosting the 2027 Women’s U-19 World Cup at the under-construction Gautam Buddha International Cricket Stadium.
The team, comprising 18 players, will leave for Malaysia on January 11 to participate in the tournament. The Nepali team is scheduled to face Bangladesh, Scotland, and Australia on January 18, 20, and 22, respectively.
