Udhauli and Yomari Punhi festivals being observed today

Kathmandu, Dec 4: The Yomari Punhi (Yomari Purnima) and Udhauli festivals are being celebrated across the country today.

Yomari Purnima, observed primarily by the Newar community of the Kathmandu Valley, is believed to have started around 400 years ago. The highlight of the festival is Yomari, a special delicacy made from rice flour and molasses.

The day is also marked as Jyapu Day.

Meanwhile, the Kirant community is celebrating the Udhauli festival, observed to offer gratitude for a good harvest by worshiping land and nature.

The festival is celebrated by Rai, Limbu, Sunuwar, and Yakkha communities. The federal government has declared a public holiday today on the occasion of these festivals.
