UML’s Giri appointed Chief Minister of Lumbini Province

Butwal: Parliamentary Party leader of the CPN (UML), Lumbini Province, Leela Giri, has been appointed Chief Minister of the Province.

Lumbini Province Chief Amik Sherchan appointed Giri to the post in accordance with Article 168 (2) on Wednesday.

Giri was appointed the Chief Minister with the support of 58 province assembly members—seven political parties including CPN (UML) and two independent lawmakers. The ruling alliance had submitted its claim with the signatures of province assembly members of CPN (UML), CPN (Maoist Centre), Janata Samajbadi Party, Rastriya Prajatantra Party, Loktantratik Samajbadi Party, Nagarik Unmukti Party and two independent lawmakers before the Province Chief for the formation of government on Wednesday afternoon.

The CPN (UML) has 29 seats, CPN (Maoist Centre) 10 seats, Rastriya Prajatantra Party four, three seats each of JSP, LSP and Janamat Party, four of Nagarik Unmukti Party and two independent members.

There are 27 seats of Nepali Congress, three of LSP and one each of CPN (Unified Socialist) and Rastriya Janamorcha in the Lumbini Province Assembly.

Giri was elected from Rupandehi 2 (b) in the election held on November 20.

Newly appointed CM Giri is scheduled to take oath of office and secrecy at the capital of Lumbini Province, Deukhuri, on January 12.
