UN Resident Coordinator Hanaa calls on Minister Kharel

Kathmandu, Oct 10: A team comprising UN Resident Coordinator Hanaa Singer called on Minister for Communications and Information Technology Jagadish Kharel on Thursday.

United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Resident Representative for Nepal Kyoko Yokosuka and United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) Representative to Nepal, Jaco du Toit were also in the team.

During the meeting held at the Ministry in Singha Durbar, Minister Kharel extended gratitude towards the UN support to the government of Nepal.

On the occasion, Minister Kharel opined that the incumbent government has obtained support from all sides. Necessary homework is on to conduct the upcoming elections to the House of Representatives in an impartial and fearless environment on the slated date. The government has expected positive support from the development partners including the UN to make the election successful.”

He also lauded the UN’s support in the disaster management. Similarly, discussions were held on collaborating between the government of Nepal and the UNDP in the areas of digital transformation, media literacy promotion, and good governance reforms, it is said.

In response, UNDP Resident Coordinator Hanaa Singer shared, “The coordination and activeness of the incumbent government shown during the disaster are praiseworthy.”
