US Senator Hollen inquires about completing Nepal’s peace process

Kathmandu, Sept 3: US Senator Chris Van Hollen, a member of the Appropriations Subcommittee on State and Foreign Operations, and the United States Senate’s Committee on Foreign Relations and State and Foreign Operations, had a courtesy meeting with Chairman of CPN (UML) KP Sharma Oli.

Vice Chair Subash Nembang said that in the meeting held today at the UML parliamentary office in Singhdarbar, the peace process and the implementation of the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) were discussed between them.

According to him, Chairman Oli had the vision of Nepal and the party led by him. “The party Chairman Oli made it clear that we have tried to complete the peace process while our government was in power”, said Nembang. “Keeping in mind the international commitment, the judgment of the Supreme Court and the fact that the peace process should be concluded in a victim-friendly manner, we have a role to play and support in completing the peace process. The Chairman said that we will proceed in this way.”

Senator Hollen, inquiring about the peace process, expressed his belief that the current relationship between the two countries will become more harmonious. Nembang informed that they are happy that MCC Nepal has been approved and implemented. Deputy General Secretary of UML Bishnu Rimal and Secretary of UML Foreign Department Dr. Anjan Shakya also participated in the meeting.
