Kathmandu, July 31: The usury victims (popularly known as “Meter-Byaj”) staging rally and seat-in program at Shantibatika and Maitighar in Kathmandu calling on the government to address their issues. The usury is becoming big social issue where loan sharks give loans at high-interest rates to poor people and increase the interest with time.
Nepal’s House of Representatives and National Assembly (both Houses) have recently passed a Bill and the President has authenticated the Bill into law which has the provision of punishing those who are engaged in usury business across the country.
