Kathmandu, Sept 9: The country’s main administrative center, the Singha durbar, has been damaged in attacks and arson by protesters that is taking in various parts of the country, including the Kathmandu Valley.
The main buildings of the executive, legislature and judiciary have been burned in the riots and arson that followed the demonstration organized by the Gen-Z group in Kathmandu and other parts of the country on Monday.
The Prime Minister and Council of Ministers’ Office building in Singhadurbar, the Supreme Court in Ramshahpath and the Federal Parliament in Naya Baneshwor have been damaged in the fire.
The protesters have also set fire to the Attorney General’s Office and the Traffic Office in Ramshah Path. The residences of CPN (UML) Chair KP Sharma Oli, Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba, CPN (Maoist Center) Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ and former Prime Minister Jhalanath Khanal, among others.
The residences of UML leaders Gokul Baskota, Mahesh Basnet, Mahesh Bartaula and others have also been set on fire and vandalized.
It has been reported that the protesters have also assaulted some leaders. Important physical structures and residences in the country’s main cities have also been damaged by the protesters.
The demonstration took a violent turn after 19 young men were killed in police action during the Gen-Z demonstration against corruption and social media blockade.
