Kathmandu, Jan 1: Veteran journalist and Editor Gokul Prasad Pokharel has passed away. He was 87.
Pokharel was suffering from respiratory related ailments for long, and passed away at 10:30 am on Monday at the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital (TUTH) in Kathmandu, senior journalist Kapil Kafle confirmed.
The founding general secretary of Nepal Press Institute (NPI), Pokharel had served as the organization’s President for two tenures. He also served as Member of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC).
Pokharel also served as the Chief Editor of Gorkhapatra national daily and associate editor of The Rising Nepal. He was also the Editor and Acting General Manager of National News Agency (RSS) of Nepal.
Pokharel leaves behind his spouse, two daughters and a son.The final rites of Pokharel are to be performed on Tuesday, Kafle said.
