Vice President: ‘Safeguarding constitution’s supremacy and compliance’



Kathmandu, March 14: Candidates of vice-president have intensified their publicity and voters outreach in view of the election to be held on March 17.

Candidates, including Ashtalaxmi Shakya (Bohora), Prameela Kumari, Mamata Jha and Ramsahaya Prasad Yadav had registered their candidacy for the vice-president. However, Prameela Kumari had already announced to remain passive in the race.

According to the code of conduct, the silence period would prevail from 12.00 tonight (48 hours before the Election Day) until the closure of polling center. The publicity is prohibited to conduct the election in a free, fair, credible and transparent manner.

Shakya promises to keep constitutional supremacy

Vice-President’s candidate Ashtalaxmi Shakya from CPN-UML promised to keep constitutional supremacy, protect its spirit, promote nationalism, preserve national interests and provide guidance for all.

“If I emerge victorious to the post, I would strive my best to provide ownership to all by keeping integrity of the position. I am asking voters to vote for me keeping this strong belief. I have received positive response from the voters”, she added.

My candidacy for constitution’s compliance-Yadav

Another candidate for the post of Vice-president, Ramsahaya Prasad Yadav of Janata Samajwadi Party commented that his candidacy was for the compliance and safeguarding of the constitution. “If elected to the post, I would devote my efforts to promote national unity and keep peace and prosperity in the country through the implementation of the constitution and laws”, he pledged.

Both the candidates have directly approached the political parties, their parliamentary party leaders and voters to ask for vote and also create environment for their win.

The Election Commission (EC) has stated that no election publicity activities such as discussion, interaction, meeting, conference, workshop and seminar would be permitted during the silence period.

The commission has also suggested not to seek votes, use electronic medium such as SMS, facebook and viber to woo voters, release statement against code of conduct, publish or broadcast any content and forecast win and loss through media.

Also, the commission has urged the Electoral College members to participate in the voting process in the Election Day from 10.00 am to 3.00 pm.
