Voter education organised targeting women from Madheshi, Tharu, Muslim communities



Banke, Feb 24: Voter education programme targeting women in Banke and Bardiya districts has begun.

The programme was launched in view of voting under the House of Representatives (HoR) elections taking place on March 5. The programme supported by the Forum for Women, Law and Development, Kathmandu is organised by the Information and Human Rights Research Centre (IHRC).

The programme is primarily targeted at women from the Tharu, Madheshi, Muslim, marginalised and sexual and gender minorities. Women from the Madheshi community at Janaki rural municipality-2 in Banke were coached about the ways for voting in a valid way.

They were oriented about the election code of conduct, rights of voters, significance of ballots, and things that should be considered while proceeding for voting.

The orientation was facilitated by advocate Bishwajeet Tiwari. A mock voting was organised among the participants. Ward chair Chandrika Prasad Gupta said the progamme would obviously contribute to minimizing the number of invalid votes.

He urged the public to enthusiastically participate in the voting. It is said the programme is expected to increase the voter turnout, minimizing the possibility of votes turning invalid. #nepal #rss
