Kathmandu, Feb 22: Kathmandu Metropolitan City Mayor Balendra Shah has highlighted the need to promote local food, culture, and traditions.
Speaking at the inauguration of the week-long Swayambhu Festival on Saturday, Mayor Shah emphasized that Nepal’s identity is deeply rooted in its unique food, culture, religion, and art. He stated that the festival would play a vital role in promoting Nepal’s heritage and traditional cuisines.
He also stressed the importance of educating the younger generation about the significance of local food, traditions, and art, which he believes will contribute to Nepal’s overall progress.
“Our identity lies in our culture, religion, art, and cuisine. This festival serves as a platform to promote all three and introduce the younger generation to our rich culinary heritage. Today’s youth are increasingly conscious about nutrition, questioning the calcium and protein content in their diet. However, our traditional foods are naturally rich in nutrients, and we need to publicize this fact. If we consistently educate the younger generation about the nutritional value of our local produce, their interest in traditional cuisine will grow. Interestingly, foreigners have already begun adopting and appreciating our traditional food,” he said.
