Wild elephant kills one in Jhapa, one person died in Bajura accident



Birtamod, Dec 29:  One person died this morning in Shivasatakshi Municipality due to an elephant attack.

According to District Police Office Jhapa, 45-year-old Meghraj Rai of Shivasatakshi-11 Dudhe has died.  The wild elephant killed Rai when the villagers tried to chase away the tusker which was destroying the houses in the middle of the night.

According to local police, there was a loss worth Rs 150,000 due to the vandalism of the elephant. Along with this, four people have died due to elephant attacks in Jhapa within five months period.

One killed, one injured in jeep accident

One person died on the spot in a jeep accident last night in Malivan near Gaumul Rural Municipality of Bajura district, Nepal.

According to District Police Office, the deceased was 38-year-old Devendra Nath, owner of the jeep. Police inspector Kishor Singh Airee informed that the jeep of SE1J 989 on its way to Sia Dhunga from Ghatmuna may have run out of control at a place called Maliban.

According to him, Jai Malika Transport Pvt. ‘Counter Chief’ Madan Rokaya, who was riding in the jeep, was injured. The police said that the jeep fell into the river about 200 meters below the road.

A police team has reached the spot for further investigation of the incident.
