World Sanskrit Special Honour to be conferred on Purna Chandra Dhungel



Kathmandu, Aug 27: Former Vice-Chancellor of Nepal Sanskrit University Acharya Purnachandroupadhya Dhungel is to be felicitated with the World Sanskrit Special Honour on the occasion of the Sixth World Sanskrit Day.

A meeting of the Sixth World Sanskrit Day Execution Council held on Friday took a decision to this effect, Council’s Coordinator Prof Dr Madhav Prasad Pandey said.

Dhungel, a veteran scholar of the eastern philosophy and Sanskrit, served as the Vice Chancellor of Nepal Sanskrit University since 2057 BS to 2061 BS.

Dhungel holds Master’s Degree in seven subjects including the Sanskrit Grammar, Justice, Vedanta, Literature, Astrology, Sankhya Yog, Puran and History.

Dr Nirmalmani Adhikari, a member of the organizing committee of the World Sanskrit Day, said that Dhungel is to be conferred with the Special Honour for his extraordinary contributions to the Sanskrit language and knowledge who helped to carry out researches for more than 100 researchers in Nepal and India.

Last year, Prof Dr Dirgharaj Ghimire was honoured with the Special Honour. Likewise, the Council said that Assistant Professor Govinda Ghimire (Akash Nilam) is to be given Aruni Sanskrit Fellowship worth Rs 100,000.

The Special Honour and Fellowship would be provided on the main event of the Sixth World Sanskrit Day to be held on August 31. RSS
