1,231 kidney transplants in Bhaktapur Transplant Center



Kathmandu, April 24: Shahid Dharmabhakta National Transplantation Center has transplanted 1,231 kidneys in 12 years of its establishment.

On the occasion of the 12th foundation day, the Executive Director of the center, Dr. Pukarchand Shrestha, informed that 32 people’s livers have also been successfully transplanted since its establishment.

Dr. Shrestha further said that in the future, the goal is to build a transplant institution, expand transplant services in all seven provinces, and build a center with 500 beds.

In the program, Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Health and Population, Dr. Dipendra Raman Singh, discussed that since the establishment of the center, the ministry has been working continuously for its development and mentioned that it is necessary for all agencies from the ministry to work together to move the center forward.

Lawmaker from Bhaktapur Prem Suwal said that it is the government’s responsibility to provide land for the hospital. Another lawmaker Durlabh Thapa requested Bhaktapur Municipality to provide 10 ropani of land to build hospital for human organs.

On the occasion, Dr. Dipesh Shrestha was given the best employee award for his excellent service in the year 2080 BS. Dr. Pukar Chandra Shrestha and Dr. Kalpana Kumari Shrestha, Executive Director of the center, were also honored for their excellent service.
