Kathmandu, July 22: Former Prime Minister and former President of the Nepali Congress, Sher Bahadur Deuba, is set to return to Nepal later this month.
According to a press release, Deuba is preparing to return home within the Nepali month of Shrawan after undergoing medical treatment in Hong Kong. “He will return to Nepal within this month. The exact date of his return has not yet been finalized,” shared Bhanu Deuba, personal secretary.
Meanwhile, Deuba issued a press statement on Tuesday to mark the birth anniversary of B.P. Koirala. His personal secretary confirmed that the statement was released on Tuesday, and it was also posted on Deuba’s official Facebook page.
In the statement, Deuba said that although he had been abroad for medical treatment over the past few months, his thoughts, concerns and commitment have remained focused on Nepal, its people, democracy and the national interest.
“I have been closely and responsibly following the recent political developments in Nepal,” Deuba said. “Any attempt to suppress the opposition by creating an atmosphere of physical or psychological fear is unacceptable in any democratic society.”
“I am preparing to set foot once again on Nepali soil. A government may become vindictive and undemocratic, but I have complete faith in the democratic consciousness, patriotism and commitment to justice of the Nepali people,” he said.
Deuba and his wife (Dr Arzu Rana Deuba) were attacked at their residence in Budhanilkantha on September 9, 2025, during the Gen Z movement. Since the incident, Deuba has travelled abroad several times for medical treatment. In the latest time, both of them left for Singapore just before the March 5, 2026 General Election.
Nepali authorities have attempted to drag Deuba family in different cases, including money laundering, corruption, and amassing vast amount of wealth. However, both of them and their son Jaya Bir Deuba didn’t appear in the court or investigative agencies. #nepal
