Banepa, Nov 28: A total of 4,000 farmers have benefited from the livestock insurance programme implemented in Panauti Municipality.
The programme, which has been in operation since last year, covers farmers from all 12 wards of the municipality. Under the scheme, livestock such as cows, buffaloes, sheep, pigs, chickens, and ducks reared within the municipality have been insured.
According to the Municipal Livestock Section, 4,048 farmers from across the municipality are currently enrolled in the insurance programme.
The municipality has an estimated population of 30,000 goats, 10,000 cows, 6,000 buffaloes, 500 pigs, and around 100,000 birds. Of these, 5,281 cows, 2,231 buffaloes, 5,780 goats, 24,000 birds, and 18 pigs have been insured to date.
So far, insurance claims for 200 livestock have been settled under the programme.
Earlier, the municipality had implemented a “buffalo protection and preservation” campaign, which led to a doubling of the buffalo population. #nepal #livestock #insurance
