55,000 tourists entered Nepal in January, 2023

Kathmandu, Feb 1: In January 2023, 55,074 foreign tourists have entered Nepal through land and air routes.

According to the data provided by the Nepal Tourism Board, more than 55,000 foreign nationals visited Nepal by air in the first month of the year. Maniraj Lamichhane, Director at the Board, said that the arrival of tourists was encouraging. He mentioned that the arrival of a significant number of tourists even in the off-season is a positive start.

In January, 16,436 tourists came from India alone. Six thousands 561 tourists from America have visited Nepal. Similarly, 3,441 tourists from Australia and 2,468 from Bangladesh arrived Nepal.

In January of 2022, 16,436 tourists came and in 2021, 8,674 tourists visited Nepal. Looking at this description, it seems that the most significant number of tourists have come in January since the COVID-19 pandemic.

The number of foreign tourists, which decreased due to the Covid-19 pandemic, increased slightly in 2022. That year, a total of 614,148 foreign tourists visited Nepal. Before the pandemic, 1,197,091 tourists came to Nepal in 2019, but in 2020, due to the coronavirus, the number of foreign tourists decreased by 81 percent, and 230,085 tourists entered Nepal.

Similarly, in 2021, 150,962 tourists came to Nepal. Which is a decrease of 34.4 percent compared to the year 2020.
