Fifty landless families from riverbanks register for resettlement support

Kathmandu, May 1: A total of 50 landless families displaced from riverside settlements in Balkhu and Bansighat have registered with the government for resettlement and rehabilitation support.

The families gathered at Dasharath Stadium in Tripureswar and submitted their details, stating that they lack land ownership, housing, ancestral property, and stable income sources.

A joint team comprising the Department of Urban Development and Building Construction, Kathmandu Valley Development Authority, High Powered Committee for Integrated Development of Bagmati Civilization, and the Kathmandu Metropolitan Police is collecting data through a temporary help desk set up at the stadium.

Authorities are preparing to relocate the registered families to designated “holding centers” after conducting health check-ups and counselling. These temporary facilities have been established in multiple locations, including Dhapakhel, Kharipati, Bode, Nagarkot, Chobhar, and Kavre.

Project Director Machakaji Maharjan of the High Powered Committee confirmed that once the registration process is complete, the families will be transferred to the holding centers as part of the rehabilitation process. #Nepal
