Kathmandu, June 2: Nepal and China have agreed to further strengthen bilateral cooperation and expedite the implementation of key development programmes and projects during the Third Meeting of the Mechanism for Facilitation on the Implementation of Nepal-China Cooperation Programmes and Projects in Nepal.

The meeting was co-chaired by Nepal’s Foreign Secretary, Amrit Bahadur Rai, and Chinese Ambassador to Nepal, Zhang Maoming.

The two sides reviewed the progress of major cooperation programmes and projects being implemented in Nepal and discussed ways to enhance collaboration across various sectors, according to Chinese embassy statement.

During the meeting, both countries reaffirmed their commitment to implementing the important common understandings reached by the leaders of Nepal and China.

They also agreed to work closely to ensure the timely execution of ongoing initiatives and to deepen practical cooperation.

Officials said the discussions reflected the shared desire of both nations to elevate Nepal-China relations and push bilateral cooperation to new heights.

According to Nepal’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the meeting comprehensively reviewed the status of ongoing Nepal-China economic and development cooperation programmes and projects. While expressing satisfaction on the progress made so far, an understanding was reached on taking specific measures to expedite timely and effective implementation of those programmes and projects that require immediate attention.

”The Nepali delegation included senior officials from various ministries and agencies of the Government of Nepal responsible for implementation of the Nepal-China programmes and projects, and the Chinese delegation consisted of senior officials of the Embassy of China in Kathmandu”, the ministry said.

Formed under the bilateral Memorandum of Understanding signed on 21 June 2018, the Mechanism serves as a platform to regularly review the status of ongoing Nepal-China programmes and projects, identify challenges, if any, and take measures to address them with priority.
